A small desk for patient changes
The Bonsai Margin
Give a branch a shape.
Give the shape some time.
Then see what stays.
An AI-generated geometric toy, not biology, therapy or a wellbeing measure. No best shape. No score.
One living-looking line
Season 0 / 24Drag a numbered tip to bend & tie it. A branch carries its descendants. The dotted outline asks: what if every tie came away now?
01 / Choose & shape
The branch in your hand
Choose a branch. Turn on group selection to work on several at once.
Bends add a tie, in 5° steps. On the drawing, use ← / → (Shift: 1°); ↑ / ↓ selects a neighboring branch. Space ties; Delete releases.
02 / Let material change
Only this button advances time. Tied branches take on part of their held angle; free branches keep their rest angle. New buds arrive in seasons 2 and 4.
Try bending West, pass a season, then release its tie.
↑ Return to the tree03 / What the material remembers
Keep the angle, lose the tie?
These are local angles relative to the parent, not force, stress, health or beauty. The rest angle is what this branch would use without its own tie. Releasing a parent can still move its children.
04 / Take an impression
A sheet for the margin
A two-panel botanical print: current shape beside the all-free silhouette. Embedded rules, source links and history travel with the SVG; JSON keeps the same complete record. Neither file is an importable save.
No impression prepared.
About this desk · sources, invented rules & limits
From the writing
In his March 21, 2025 Note, Michael Edward Johnson compares tension to bonsai ties: after growth has taken on a useful shape, a tie may cease to contribute much. This desk borrows the distinction between a present constraint and a lasting change—not the Note’s broader civilizational judgment.
Principles of Vasocomputation (Part I) proposes connections between prediction, compression, muscle tension and remodeling. These are the author’s hypotheses, not established by this app. The essay explicitly rejects zero compression pressure as a universal ideal. Its April 6, 2025 correction distinguishes taṇhā (craving or thirst) from downstream upādāna (clinging).
There is no “release everything” victory here. Some shapes still depend on their ties. The toy supplies no criterion for a useful shape, nor a cost function for life.
What we invented
The branch tree, material response, seasonal growth, wire drawing and foliage are completely invented. No physiology, therapeutic advice, horticultural guidance, wellbeing scoring or scientific validation is supplied.
Unlike the earlier Semantic Cloth, this material changes with explicit time; its released geometry depends on its shaping history. This is an evolving branching sculpture, not an equilibrium fabric, preset puzzle or graph of concepts.
The Notes index, Lab and Hyperspace were inspected for context and visual ambition, not as scientific evidence.
