A small school with no bell
The Gesture School
Some things are easier to borrow
when someone shows you the move.
Three paper creatures. Four gestures. Watch a dance, try it yourself, then invent one to pass along. No clock, no score, no hurry.

A moth arrives carrying a very small moon.

What would you pass on?
Make an original dance of up to twelve gestures. Teach it back to the school, or invite a friend to take the next turn at this screen.
Six distinct original dances fit on this tab’s shelf. A seventh replaces the oldest. Closing this tab forgets them; download a completed practice to keep its score.
The four gestures, precisely
The places are left, middle and right as seen on your screen. The gold line marks the middle place. Facing never changes what “right” means.
- Circle: all three move one place right; the rightmost wraps to the left. Each keeps their facing, arms and lantern.
- Turn: only the middle dancer reverses their facing.
- Fold: only the middle dancer switches between open and folded arms.
- Pass: the lantern moves to the dancer one place right of its current holder, wrapping at the edge.
Demonstration and response always begin with Moth, Kettle, Fern from left to right, all facing right with open arms; Moth holds the lantern. Every gesture changes a pose. We compare the gestures in order and, separately, the ending. Two different routes can come home to the same pose.
Consulting the score is welcome. It marks that practice “score consulted,” not better or worse. This is not a memory or intelligence assessment.
A dance to take away
Compare a complete response to unlock an illustrated paired score and a full JSON record. Editing, retrying or starting another dance clears the old record. Reviewing a beat does not.
Records include the source links, authored rules, both complete pose sequences and whether the score was consulted. They are not importable saves. No data leaves this tab.
About · borrowed questions, invented moves
A practice is not a proposition.
What comes from the writing
In his October 27, 2025 Note, Michael Edward Johnson suggests that philosophers can invent ways of thinking which readers learn, beyond the propositions in their work. He distinguishes new lenses from new cognitive-emotional freedoms. The Note goes on to interpret these through his speculative vasocomputation framework; this game does not implement that physiology or its latch-opening suggestions.
A November 24, 2024 Note values attentive people who teach others their best moves. Rescuing Philosophy argues for philosophy as generative work, with feedback rather than only institutional legibility. These are the author’s positions, not findings of this game.
What was invented here
The creatures, courtesies, four gestures, three dances, imitation game and paired scores are original authored mechanics. These are button sequences, not mental motions. Matching a dance is an exact result inside a toy, not evidence that a philosophical practice has been transmitted. A common ending does not establish a common process.
What remains open
There is no claim of cognitive training, physiological accuracy, therapeutic benefit, consciousness, alignment or welfare measurement. This school neither tests the Note’s hypotheses nor ranks ways of thinking. Its invitation is simply to try learning by doing, then make something of your own.
The live Lab and Hyperspace informed the ambition to make an experience, not a summary; the Notes index guided source discovery. Full source captures are preserved privately, not served by the app.
